Abstract

The aim of this article was to explore the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on the humanistic and relational dimensions of nursing within the context of clinical practice and professional identity. Data were systematically reviewed using international databases: Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and SciELO. Analysis of the interaction between artificial intelligence and nursing care over the past five years was applied using the PICO structured method and Boolean operators. The results of these studies indicate that the implementation of such technologies can improve the state of the art in nursing care, considering clinical decision-making and diagnostic accuracy, with an emphasis on how their applicability can reduce operational workload and allow for more uninterrupted and humanized nursing care. However, ethical, relational, and educational difficulties were also identified, some of which could be related to the depersonalization of care and the need for improved digital literacy. In conclusion, artificial intelligence cannot replace nurses as practitioners of care. Rather, the nurse’s role can be restructured when integrated with an appropriate combination of technology, ethics, and human sensitivity to provide safe, efficient, person-centered, and patient-friendly care based on state-of-the-art practices.
